Don Javier Delgado Corona created the Batanga at La Capilla in Tequila in 1961, making its humble preparation part of the legend. This is a clearly labeled house field riff rather than a historical classic: Hibiscus adds tart berry depth and a dramatic crimson color.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz blanco tequila
  • 23/4 oz lime juice
  • 3Cola
  • 4Salt rim
  • 51/4 oz hibiscus syrup

Method

  1. 01Build over ice and stir with the knife used to cut the lime, as tradition demands.
  2. 02Add the hibiscus syrup before mixing and garnish with a citrus wheel.
